Nat Cole passes the test
By ARMY ARCHERD, Thurs., Apr. 3, 2008, 2:14pm PT
Nat 'King' Cole's daughter Natalie is keeping his memory alive.
GOOD MORNING: Nat Cole underwent an extensive physical exam for a two million-$-plus insurance policy less than six months ago -- and he passed all the tests. Policy was being prepped to give Cole long-range income protection by Capitol Records, which was to be named beneficiary. Due to complicated contract negotiations required in conjunction with the policy -- it was not taken out!...Everyone is encouraged to hear that Cole is now "responding favorably" to the cobalt treatments...2008 Update: Nat "King" Cole died of cancer Feb. 15, 1965. He was only 45. The next day I wrote, " 'Gentelman Nat' was a proud ambassador of his profession. He made being a pro, being 'nice' seem so easy. Being without Nat Cole is gonna be tough for showbiz."...His daughter Natalie Cole was only 15 when he died . Yesterday, Natalie appeared in Edmonton at a fundraiser for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. It is one of many such cancer charity appearances made by Natalie. She is also busy at work recording her next album -- "Still Unforgetable." It is due in September and she's been at work on it since January. She's recording n the studio at her father's alma mater -- Capitol. "It is the best in town -- perhaps in the country," she told me. Natalie recorded the first "Unforgettable" there 17 years ago. And yes, there will be a duet with her father. "It's not a song that people will recognize as 'a Nat King Cole song.' It was so hard to find -- that's why it's taken me so long." (P.S. She wouldn't allow me to publish its name) "It's not a ballad -- it's uptempo -- you'll love it!" Will there also be a video duet with Nat as with "Unforgettable"? "Absolutely" The album will be a return to the American songbook -- 21 songs of Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Nancy Wilson, Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald -- eight arrangers including two of the top movie musical arrangers, Nan Schwartz and VictorVanacord. Natalie has recently returned from dates in Malaysia and Nova Scotia. She performs with the Boston Pops May 7-8 and at the Hollywood Bowl on July 9 in her fifth performing decade. Natalie started performing at 11 -- at the side of her father Nat. They are "Still Unforgetable."

Thanks for the article, Dman. I wonder which songs she's singing. It sounds interesting. I think the album has a great concept...the title fits so well...."Still Unforgettable." Ms. Natalie Cole has such a great voice for jazz and she knows this music without a doubt. I hope the album is really well received. I don't know what the reaction will be, but I know that I'll pick up a couple copies. I believe Natalie will do a great job. I hope she hits this one right out of the ball park with a homerun. (So I love baseball! LOL!) Go Natalie!

I just thought I'd menton that my sister-in-law recently saw Living For Love: The Natalie Cole Story. She said, "I was really amazed at how much Natalie Cole went through. She's really strong. I can see why you are such a fan of hers. Wow! She has a great life story."

Oooh, I hope it includes her duet cover of "Fever" with Ray Charles. Natalie and Ray tore that up. I wonder who the producers are? Natalie is covering Nancy and Lena? What a treat??....
I am so excited Natalie. I hope the cd cover is pink because you have not released a pink cd cover ever.
Swing it Natalie,
B

Yeah Five, I'm excited too! I'm sold on the concept...."Still Unforgettable." She's got a great line of legendary artists that she's covering, and I'm really wondering which song of Nat's will be a duet. Hmm....I still don't know how it will be received, but at first I was not feeling it. When the article came out where she told of the title and gave more information, it changed my mind. I know I'm going to enjoy listening to it, but I wish the month of release was sooner. Who knows? Maybe after that, we'll get a Gospel or R&B album. I love Natalie...Live; it's a masterpiece!

I wish she would record "Guess Who I Saw Today". In 1984, I saw her perform Fancy Nancy's version of "Don't Rain On My Parade", from her "How Glad I Am" album. She opened the show with it. It was amazing, I actually heard Nancy Wilson's influence in her voice.

I wonder if she will cover Frank's "My Way"? Natalie does well covering Nancy's tunes also. I wish they would duet and tour. That would be incredible... Total sell-out!!!
I just hope the Nat King Cole duet is not the first single and video. She said she did not think Unforgettable II was a good idea so why do it with the duet again..

I listen to Aretha's version of "My Way' pratically everyday. It's on the double cd of her previously unrealeased songs. This cd is Aretha in her prime 1967-1973.

Hi D,
Aretha has an extensive song coverage over her career. The lady worked her butt off. Her voice is annointed by God. I just pray she stops smoking and loses some weight. We still need her soulful voice. I love her duet with John Legend.
Natalie should cover "My Way". The song fits her persona. (smile) I love her cover of Frank's "They Can't Take That Away From Me". Its one of my all time favorites by her. It also fits her.
I am hyped for this cd. Child, Soul Train just came on. Jennifer Holiday is on. She was big as a brick house back then. She looks great now.
Stay up, Darrin,
B
